  5.         Angelica Singleton Van Buren was Van Buren's official White House hostess.  She was married to his oldest son, Abraham.  She met Abraham Van Buren at a state dinner in 1838.  Mrs. Van Buren was the daughter of a wealthy South Carolina planter.  She was related to Dolley Madison, JAMES MADISON's wife.
